Le Marche might be one of the lesser known regions of Italy but there is still plenty to enjoy including a wealth of cultural events of which the Sferisterio opera season is one of the highlights.
The opera season kicks off at Sferisteronio on the 29th of July with Marco Mencoboni conducting the Claudio Monteverdi production Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers of the Happy Virgin).
Next at Sferisterio is the Charles Gounod production Faust conducted by Jean-Luc Tingaud on the 30th of July, 3rd and 7th of August.
Finally the Guiseppe Verdi production La Forza del destino (The Force of destiny) is conducted by Daniele Callegari on 31st July, August 4th and 8th.
Mecerata’s Sferisterio arena is a wonderful setting for opera. Located due inland from the coastal resort of Civitanova, just south of Ancona an opera experience at the Sferisterio promises a night to remember for anyone taking a holiday in a Le Marche villa this summer.
