Initially Corsica flights were restricted due to the old charter flight regime and limited low cost flight schedules. Ryanair has now changed all that with its Saturday flights from London Stanstead to Figari*.
The consequences of this are great news for Villas Worldwide clients as our Corsica villa program already features nine superb villas which are available on Saturdays. One of the best holiday rental villas on the island falls into this category, the superb five star luxury villa Pianatolli which is within walking distance of a fabulous beach and commands unbeatable sea views.
There is also the issue of price as the addition of yet another low cost flight increases further the competition and quantity of flights which in theory should lead to cheaper prices. £97.71 is the basic return prices advertised by Ryanair today for a return flight from London Stanstead to Figari, commencing 5 June. That’s not bad at all. Other "low cost" operators flying into Corsica direct from the UK include Easyjet and Thomsonfly.
The continent is also well served with TUIFLY offering direct flights from Berlin in Germany to Bastia on Saturday and Sunday, Germanwings also offer a direct flight service to Corsica.
We are not aware of such services from Spain or Italy although most Italian clients prefer to take the ferry such as the one running from Livorno. There are no direct flights from Sweden, Holland or Norway which we are aware of. These countries need to fly indirectly via the French mainland or a stop-over destination such as the UK or Germany.
Car hire is well catered for in Corsica, however we strongly recommend that clients book their cars at the same time as their holiday just to be on the safe side.
Of course part of the charm of Corsica is that not too many people come to the island so whilst we welcome new low cost flights we hope there won’t be too many!
Villas du Monde - Villas Worldwide is the worlds leading provider of quality villas with private swimming pools in Corsica, with over ten years experience of the island.
PLEASE NOTE*: Since this article was published Ryanair ceased flights to Corsica from the UK.
