Monet’s Garden at Giverny is set in the grounds of the house where the famous French artist Monet lived between 1883 and 1992, it was a source of inspiration for many of his greatest works of art.
Monet designed the garden himself to suit his artistic taste, it is quite straightforward in format but its brilliance lies in the profusion of colour which, in his time, Monet captured on canvas. There are two parts to Monet’s garden, the Clos Normand which is rectangular and the Water Garden around the pretty, shuttered house with lovely rose arches.
It is the Water Garden which was the source of some of Monet’s most famous works, the Water Lilies series. July is the best time to see the water lilies in bloom and walk into the world of Monet which is faithfully maintained in the format loved by Monet.
Monet is hugely popular nowadays, indeed Telematin announced this morning on French television that the current Monet exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris is to remain open exceptionally for three night running up to Monday at 22.00 to try to accommodated the enormous demand to see the great masters works.
