Medoc wine areas are reputedly the best in the world and you would be hard pressed to find a French person who would say otherwise.
Wine like many things is a question of personal taste and really the Medoc is all about “big” red wines which are strong in flavour and above all improve vastly with age especially in a good year.
For the experts there is little question that the Medoc is right out on top of the worlds best wines and prices of the best chateau vintages are a clear reflection of their ongoing prestige.
Personally I think you need a sensitive palate to really appreciate a quality Medoc but for visitors there is more than just the wine. Driving around the Medoc wine area you cannot help but observe how immaculate the rows of vines are, how beautiful the Medoc chateaux and a general feel of quality about everything connected with the areas wine industry.
The four main appelation names in the Medoc are Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux. Amongst the top producers are Domaines Barons de Rothchild Chateau Lafite-Roschild in Pauillac, which averages £882 per bottle on the “cheaper” end is Chateau Leoville Barton in Saint Julien which averages £80. There are cheaper deals to be had and best of all buy a young wine and store it.
Staying in an Aquitaine villa you have lots to explore including the Medoc wine areas. We have a large range of villas in France, many of which are in wine regions so you will always have chance to load a few cases in the car boot.
