Hermanus Whale festival in South Africa is a wonderful opportunity to view the massive Southern Right Whale from the shore at the end of this month.
This annual event runs from 30th September to 4th October 2011. Hermanus is in Walker Bay at the very tip of South Africa. The town has a whale-crier who’s horn provides a means of morse type communication with the whales.
Spectators stand on the cliff tops during the festival, from where there is an excellent view of whales particularly in the early hours of the morning.
The Southern Right Whales are amongst the biggest whales to roam the oceans and the sight of these majestic mammals breaching is very special indeed.
Whale spotting is one of the many nature based activities which you can enjoy on a villa holiday in South Africa. Now is a good time to reserve your holiday house in Cape Town near the sea.
