Granada Reconquest Festival, Andalusia, Spain takes place on the 2nd January 2011. The annual festival celebrates the day in 1492 when the Christians took back the city from the Moors.
The keys to the Alhambra palace were handed over by King Boabdil on the day known as El Dia de la Toma or capture day changing the destiny of Granda ever since. The event of that day is replicated each January 2nd with the raising of the Castille flag from the Torre de Vela, the Alhambra palace tower.
The Granada Reconquest Festival event is celebrated throughout the city of Granda which is still dominated by the imposing Alhambra palace.
