Gradara is a major attraction in Le Marche, in fact it is one the most popular places for day trippers to visit.
Dominated by an imposing hilltop castle which dates back to the fourteenth century the battlements are to this day one of the principal landmarks of the Le Marche coast.
The fortress which resides at the higher end of town, once through the main gates of the city, was once the fief of the Malatesta family for nearly two centuries. It was here that Francesca da Rimini and her lover Paolo were said to be murdered, an event immortalized by Dante one of Italy's greats, in The Inferno.
The fortress, the ramparts, the numerous gift shops and restaurants make for a memorable day out. Gradara is just one of the many sights you can see whilst staying on a Le Marche villa holiday, most convenient is our villa in Cesena.
