In January look out for the Nobel prize winners at the Science festival, an annual event held in Rome at the Audiorium Parco della Musica.
Rugby and the six Nations championship comes the Stadio Flaminio in Rome each year in February/March.
Also in March its the annual Rome marathon which tours the cities famous streets.
Football is big in Rome and the annual Roma versus Lazio match is in March.
On Good Friday in April the procession is overseen by the Pope.
The Rome Independent Film Festival is on in April.
The birth of Rome celebrations in April each year put on a show of gladiatorial strength complete with banquets and parades.
Held in the Piazza San Giovanno in Rome during May the Primo Maggio Festival is the regions premiere musical event.
During April and May the 100 Painters Via Margutta brings together local artists and painters from around the world.
Around the same time in April and May the annual Festa del Baccanale celebrates the excellent local wine.
Italians are tremendous at interior design and at the annual Moa Casa during April and May you can catch up on the latest offerings.
Tarquina on the coast holds the annual Giostra della Contrade in May, where the knighting of three of the towns nobles is re-enacted.
Tennis is a big talking point these days with Andy Murray finally winning Wimbledon. The ATP World Tour Masters 100 comes to Rome in May at the International BNL d'Italia tournament.
Also in May pre-1980 scooters and motorcycles join in the annual Monte Mario Motorcycling event.
In the Piazza di Sienna in May the annual International Horse show in on.
Lovers of horror and science fiction films can enjoy the Fanfestival in May/June.
In June there is the annual Infoirata, an immense floral design held in the via Belardi in Genzano.
A comedy in English is performed by the Miracle players in June. Held in the forum it's theme is the Roman empire.
The 29th June is a public holiday each year as it is the Feast of St Peter and St Paul. Celebrations are held in Rome.
Another music event of note is Tivoli Rock which takes place in the Blesco Roman Amphitheatre in July.
In Rome at the Cavea Auditorium Parco della Musica there are evening concerts during July.
At the Villa Torlonia during July and August you can enjoy classical music at the Concert under the stars events.
The Feast of the martyr San Lorenzo (Saint Lawrence) is held in August.
In Viterbo in August there is the Festival Barocco music event each year.
During July and August you can hear Francesco Carotenuto directing the Rome International Chamber Ensemble in the courtyard of S.Ivo alla Sapienza.
The Tuscia festival takes place in Viterbo right through the summer from July to September. Classical concerts, opera and theatre are the main formats.
Also in Viterbo the four hundred year old Feast of Santa Rosa is held each year in September.
