Cannes is a lively resort throughout the year as it attracts many holidaymakers to its glamorous beachside hotels and the sumptuous villas in the surrounding hills. There is also an ongoing series of high profile events which lure a worldwide audience, of which the film festival is the most well known.

Cannes is set around a vast, sweeping sandy beach backed by the famous Croisette promenade, which leads up to the Palais des festival and the modern yacht port then on to the charming old port and the hilltop old town of Le Suquet. Set back from the beach is a myriad of streets with fabulous shops, restaurants and cafes catering in large part for the upper end of the market but with plenty for “normal people” as well. Traveling to Cannes is very easy as there are lots of direct, international flights into nearby Nice airport (NCE) 27km (around 22 minutes drive). There is very good motorway access to Cannes, ideal for self drive and there is a mainline train station. 

The climate in Cannes is unique, a micro climate formed by the Alps, the Esterel and the Mediterranean provide Cannes with a micro climate of warm sunny weather nearly all year round. It is this climate which has attracted tourists to Cannes for centuries.

The old town of Le Suquet is absolutely charming and sophisticated; particularly in the evenings when the narrow streets lined with elegant, cosy restaurants ooze romance and style. Starting at the plage de Palais there are wide sandy beaches stretching all the way down the Croisette. Some are private and can usually be accessed for a fee, however there are plenty of public beaches. There is a prevailing atmosphere of money and well being proffered further by the high quality hotel establishments such as the Carlton where you can enjoy a cocktail in the bar.

In the harbour there is a terrific variety of boats from simple fishing craft to the ultimate in luxury cruisers and at the end of September each year there is the spectacular Regates Royal Trophee Panerai when over 150 of the worlds most beautiful sailing craft sail and compete during five days in the bay of Cannes and around the Levin islands.
