The Loire - Atlantic region incorporates the Loire Valley, the Vienne, Charentes, Charentes Maritimes and the Vendee. Inland these are fascinating areas dominated by major rivers and wine growing areas with many fabulous chateaux. The coastal areas have fabulous, wide sandy beaches backed by sweet-smelling pines.

Western Loire travel

There is good access to this region by means of direct flights to Nantes (NTE), and Poitiers. Low-cost flight operators include Easyjet and Flybe.

Western Loire weather

Once you reach the Loire valley the weather in France is definitely warmer, perhaps by as much as 5 degrees compared to the north. So this is an area where you can expect the sunshine and not so much rain. The best family holiday periods for nice temperatures are between May and September with July and August being the hottest months.
