The opera season in Milan, La Scala, Italy, 2011 got underway on 6th December.
La Scala is the most famous opera house in the world and its popularity with the opera going fraternity and many dignitaries is undiminished. The La Scala theatre was built in the seventeenth century at the behest of the Empress of Austria, at a time when the Habsburgs ruled northern Italy. The Teatro alla Scala has strong links with the great composer Verdi.
At La Scala you will find many great classic operas are performed but there are also some excellent innovations.
This year from 7 December to 2 January its Die Walkure, a saga about the gods Wotan and Brunnhilde and worldly heroes Siegmund and Sieglinde. The production lasts 4 hours and 55 minutes. Tickets from 12€ to 187€.
And from 16 December to 7 January it’s a return to La Scala after ten years of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake directed by Daniel Barenboim. Running time is 2 hours and 50 minutes. Ticket prices 10€ to 115€
