Telemark World Cup, Meribel, France is on in Meribel during the 6th and 7th of February 2011.
The Telemark World Cup or Coupe du Monde de Telemark as it is known in France provides a superb opportunity to see this most graceful of ski techniques performed by the worlds best.
Telemark is a remarkably powerful method of skiing, its not traditional alpine skiing, nor ski mountaineering or cross country skiing, it is a combination of them all, allowing the skier to negotiate climbing hills and skiing down them at considerable speed.
Due to an upsurge in strong telemark skiers the sport has seen an uplift in recent years and there are now three principal telemark disciplines giant slalom, classic and classic sprint.
Seventy competitors will take part in the Sprint en nocturn or nighttime sprint on Sunday evening and the classic on Monday. The Lau brothers are the Meribel champions and it is expected that the whole of Meribel will behind them during the competition.
