Tapas tasting of the highest order takes place during the Tapeo in the old centre of the charming seaside resort of Javea, or Xabia as it is known by the locals, in Spain’s Costa Blanca. The tastings are supplemented by musical and theatrical performances during the later weekends of September.
Javea is proud of its reputed gourmet cuisine which is enhanced by a wealth of high quality local products in particular the beautiful orange and lemon groves in the surrounding countryside and fresh fish and seafood care of the local fishermen. Superb tapas are showcased during the Tapeo where the local chefs show of their prowess with a fantastic veriety of delicious platters.
Also prominant amongst the local ingredients are the base elements of garlic and olive oil which constitute the “all i oli” that accompanies many dishes. Traditional sausages cooked in wood powered ovens are another staple along with the superb traditional pastries which are best washed down with the popular Mistelle or Muscatel sweet wine.
Xabia culinary traditions have been conserved over the years and the Mediterranean dishes of today are both rich and healthy suiting both modern and traditional palates. There are a wide range of culinary influences in Javea due to people from many different cultures who have settled in the area, so you can enjoy Thai or Chinese or Italian cuisine as well as the excellent local fare.
The climate in the Costa Blanca is one of the best in the world, year round and September is one of the best months for sustained sunshine.
