The 2010 ski season in France is under way following significant early snow falls throughout the French Alps and the Pyrenees.
A number of resorts are already open including Tignes and Les Deux Alps which benefit from being particularly high and having large glaciers. Both these resorts offer skiing through the summer, however today Tignes is boasting 80cm of beautiful snow.
However a number of others are now opening following the heavy snow dumps this week. One of these is Isola 2000, one of the premiere ski resorts in the southern Alps which announced yesterday that they will be opening the resort this weekend.
Isola 2000 is a purpose built resort with extensive beginners slopes, particularly close to the resort itself, which are really nice and gentle, very wide and pleasant, it really is an excellent place for anyone taking up skiing for the first time. Beyond the beginners slopes there is loads of skiing and some nice long taxing slopes for competent skiers and a superb jumps arena for boarders and skiers alike who want to “take some air”.
There are over 120km of ski runs at Isola 2000, including 3 black runs, 11 red runs, 21 blue runs and 7 green runs. The ski runs are serviced by a modern and efficient ski lift system making Isola a pleasure to ski.
Just an hour an a half drive from Nice airport Isola 2000 is really easy to get to and there are excellent direct flights from the UK to Nice, particularly with Easyjet (today advertising Liverpool to Nice starting 20th December at £127 return). There are regular coaches from Nice airport to the resort (changing at Isola village), call 0800 06 01 06 to book a place.
