Museum night in France, known in French as La Nuit des Musees allows you to visit museums and art galleries free of charge until the early hours.
Organized by the French ministry of culture as part of a Europe wide initiative France opens the doors of all its museums for a night along with some additional gems which don’t normally open to the public. La Nuit des Mussee is on the 14 May 2011.
This will be the seventh consecutive year that France has participated in the free museum night initiative and it is getting rather good at it. Not only do the museums of France open up their doors for the night absolutely free of charge but there are extras, from comedy acts to musicians, historians, dancers and more, all adding to the experience.
The French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand explains that the spirit of the night is one of a community initiative, uniting the museums of as many as forty countries with the support of Europe and UNESCO.
France has many amazing museums, not just in Paris but throughout the country and the free museum night offers a unique opportunity to view them on this special occasion.
