Las Fallas, Valencia, Costa Blanca, Spain 2011 takes place in the centre of the city from the 15 to 19 March.
As bonfire style events goes Las Fallas makes bonfire night in the UK seem like a warm up. This is one of the noisiest fieriest events you will come across anywhere in the world.
For many years the tradition of La Fallas in Valencia in Spain has been to create huge papier-mache structures, rather like carnival floats and then burn them, apparently in honour of one Saint Joseph who is probably awoken by the noise and heat even now! Fireworks play a big part of the celebration.
The enormous effigies, which tend to be film stars, politicians even toreodors, indeed anyone of note in Spanish or Costa Blanca societe, are displayed until the final night when they are set alight after having been judged (the winner is spared from the flames and exhibited in a Valencian museum.
They like to have some fun in the Costa Blanca in Spain and Valencia is certainly one of the hot spots.
This is an annual event so do ask if you would like the dates of the next La Fallas.
