Isola 2000 Christmas ski report following my day in resort yesterday.
NEW for 2012 is the digital ski pass system. Your card goes in the top left hand pocket, it gets scanned as you approach the barrier and through you go onto the lift, its much quicker.
The snow has been late arriving in the Alps this year compared to recent times. It is now there in abundance in the northern Alps but the southern Alps is still a bit short. I was interested to know how this was impacting on our main southern French resort Isola 2000, so I went for a days skiing to find out.
One of the best things about Isola 2000 is that you nearly always get sunshine and decent snow from mid December through to April. Despite fairly low snow fall so far the majority of the runs were open yesterday, including the south facing ones.
The Isola 2000 snow management team have got the resort well under control, it was nice and crisp and cold as it often is around Christmas so the snow on the pistes was great, really positive, next to no ice, plenty of bit and little to trip you up.
The Christmas holidays are under way but despite this I found no queues to speak of and as the sun came out there were big smiles on the faces of satisfied skiers.
There were plenty of families in resort and the ski school classes were brimming with children of all ages with a good number having a go at snow boarding.
The snow park was not open and off piste skiing is really not practical as outside of the pistes there simply isn’t enough snow cover yet.
