Holidays villas self drive options. Which are the most popular resorts to drive to and what are the merits of taking your own car.
Self drive villa holidays are as popular as ever despite considerable competition from the thriving low cost flight sector. The two key factors for choosing a self drive holiday in a villa are cost and convenience.
It doesn’t matter which country you are coming from there is no doubt that if you can drive to your holiday house within a day then taking your own car is an overwhelming good choice. To be able to pack all you need in the car for you and the children without restrictions is a big plus, we know of a number of clients who take a big bag just filled with toys for the pool at the villa. Then you can control the journey to suit you with very little disturbance.
Anyone who has traveled by plane recently will have witnessed the increasing hassle involved, there are body searches, limited liquids in hand luggage plus frequent charges for bags which don’t quite fit. You even have to stuff your duty free goods inside your hand baggage. Woe betide you if your hand luggage isn’t the right size as not only do you have to pay a hefty supplement but you will often have to do so in cash and for some that means a dash back through the airport to the cash machine. It’s not finished there as all too often there is not enough room to pack your hand luggage inside the plane.
Plus there are the queues at check in and sometimes even finding a car parking space at the airport is desperate. When you have small children in tow all these things mount up. Yes there is no doubt that the niggling problems with flying can be very stressful particularly for those who don’t fly often as they are frequently caught out by all the unexpected rules and restrictions. It’s not a good way to start a holiday.
The other great thing about a self drive holiday is that you can also bring things back, such as clothes, souvenirs and wine. There is a wonderful freedom about that.
Self drive holidays in France are the most popular with Brittany being the number one choice for our holiday makers, though many still drive right down to the south of France and some into Italy and Spain taking over-night stop hotels.
For those traveling from the UK, Ireland and the channel islands there is a great choice of car ferries and of course there is the channel tunnel which is really quick and easy. You can enjoy a self drive villa holiday with the family and it’s often the most economical option.
