Holiday villas with infinity pools. What is an infinity pool? That’s a question we get asked a lot, mainly because we do have quite a lot of villas with infinity pools.
An infinity pool is sometimes known also as an overflow pool and if you combine the two you get more of an understanding as to what it is. In many cases holiday villas with infinity pools are located on a hillside overlooking the sea and it is here that you get the infinity effect.
When looking from the side of the pool nearest the hill towards the sea you get the impression that the water of the villas swimming pool is blending with the water of the sea, it’s as if the water of the pool is infinite. It’s a really cool effect which is even better when you are in the pool and gazing out to sea.
How is this achieved? Well the side of the pool closest to the sea differs from all the other sides of the villas swimming pool. It is lower and a few centimetres of water actually flow over the wall and the water collects in a shallow trough which is usually about one metre below. This creates the overflow effect and there is a pump system which recycles the collected water back into the pool to create a continuous flow.
Villas with infinity pools are fairly unusual as the overflow effect costs a lot of money. However we are finding infinity pool villas even inland nowadays and although the effect is not as dramatic its still very nice indeed.
People do wonder if it’s dangerous in any way and the answer is no. There is no drag from the overflow effect and on the other side there is the collection bath. Parents will always need to keep an eye on children in the villa swimming pool but there is no additional vigilance for an infinity pool which satisfies all the stringent safety norms.
