Festival of the Moors and Christians, entertainment for holidaymakers in Javea villas this weekend. This years "Moros i Christians" festival started on July 10 and reaches its climax this weekend.
The festival is a commemoration of the 800 year occupation of the Iberian peninsula by the Moors or "Moros" as they are known locally. The Moors were Berber, Black African and Arab peoples of North Africa who invaded much of Spain, Portugal and France in 711.
The Festival of the Moors and Cristians in Javea takes the form of a spectacular parade through the streets of extravagantly dressed dancers in full costume, floats, acrobats and even camels. Our local manager in Javea has been known to take part in this annual event which is part of the fabric of local Javea or Xavia culture.
For those lucky enough to be on holiday in one of our lovely Javea villas the Festival Moros Y Cristianos is very enjoyable, the crowds line the streets of Javea to enjoy the music and dance on warm July evenings. Here is a clip provided by our local manager from last years festival.
