February was carnival time once again with Venice the stand out destination in Italy.
From February 22nd until 20th of April one of Italy's greatest Futurist style painters Mario Sironi is being exhibited in Sorrento.
At Siracusa in Sicily the spectacular Teatro Greco opens the 2014 season on the 9th of May with the tragedy Agamennon by Aeschylos running through until 20th June.
You can enjoy the beautiful old cars taking part in the Mille Miglia in Rome from the 15th to 18th May. Eligible cars must be from the construction period 1927 to 1957.
Opera lovers can enjoy the acoustic wonders of the roman amphitheatre in Verona from 20th June to the 6th of September.
Tuscany comes alive to the sound of cheering factions and horses hooves beating around Il Palio in Sienna from 2nd July to 16th August in 2014. Ticket are available in advance (book early) if you prefer to sit or you can take your chance in the free standing area.
This years Umbria jazz festival takes place between the 11th and 20th of July in Perugia with Natalie Cole amongst the performers.
In Pesaro the Rossini opera season takes place between the 10th and 22nd of August with The Barber of Seville and Armida being performed amongst others.
The 71st film festival in Venice hosts the cinematic stars from the 27th August to the 6th of September in the expanded Sala Darsena theatre.
The 85th Formula 1 Grand Prix takes place at Autodrome National Monza with practice and qualifying on the 5th and 6th and the race itself on the 7th of September.
Food is very important indeed in Italy and there are a couple of events in November which are worth mentioning:
In Tuscany the hilltop town of San Miniato hosts the white truffle festival in November.
Similarly the white truffle is also celebrated in Alba on the weekends between 8th and 15th of November.
The world famous opera venue La Scala in Milan begins it's opera season on the second week of December.
