The Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic has a very rich culture due to its unique blend of influences; here there is a unique combination of African, European and Taino (the native Indians) influences.

The Dominican Republic is a former Spanish colony (the main language spoken is Spanish) and they brought a Latin American influence to the local food which you can enjoy on holiday in The Dominican Republic today. There are also the local Taino dishes which predominantly contain potatoes, yucca and plantains as well as some African.

Saint Domingo has many fascinating museums, monuments and collections of art and music. A tentative claim to fame is the belief that the body of Christopher Columbus lies in peace somewhere on the island. True or not this is the point where the west first encountered the Americas.

There is no shortage of what to do on a Dominican Republic villa holiday. If you can tear yourself away from your villa pool and garden there are around 400 kilometres of pristine white sandy beaches, lapped by the warm Caribbean Sea, so you can start there. Then there are the fiestas, quad biking, sailing trips, deep sea fishing, diving and so much more such as visiting the Los Haitises National Park.

Dominican Republic Weather

The climate is fabulous all year round with average midday temperatures of 32C in summer and 19C in winter. The months of June, July, August and September are the warmest although the weather up the mountains around Constanza and Jarabacoa is much cooler. It does rain but it doesn’t last long.

Dominican Republic Travel

There is an international airport La Isabela (AILI) in Punta Cana (PUJ). Punta Cana is serviced with direct international flights through Thomson Airways. We can help organise airport transfers to resort through our local agents.

A villa holiday in the Dominican Republic puts you in touch with a little bit of paradise.
