Corsica holiday events 2011 are listed here, so you can see what’s on where on the isle de beaute. Here is the social calendar for Corsica 2011.
The Chestnut festival (Fiera dia Castagna) annual event in Bocagnano is on soon 10th – 12th December.
In March it’s the annual Citerium International Cycling Race in the southern Corsica seaside resort of Porto Vecchio. Road race, hill race and speed race trials for this 80 year old event.
The annual Ajaccio marathon in March is a multi discipline event with a full marathon, a half marathon and a 10km walk.
The Jazz Equinoxe Festival is on in Bastia at the Theatre Municipal in April, the event is all about non-commercial jazz.
Tour de Corse, the annual Corsica rally of 10,000 bends is on 11th to 14th May.
The Calvi jazz festival is on in June 2011. It’s a big one, well frequented by top international jazz musicians with plenty of jamming sessions after the concerts.
The Jazz in Ajacciu festival is on from 29th June to 2nd July in the Ajaccio Lzaret museum and the citadel.
In July it’s the Calvi on the Rocks festival. International and local DJ’s rev things up on the beach in Calvi in the north of Corsica.
The Estivoce Festival of Summer Voices takes place in many of the villages in the Balagne area of Corsica. Pigna is the principal village where Corsican ballads and traditional guitar music are performed in the evening.
Polyphonic singing Corsican style can be heard in July at the Canti di Qui festival in Vignale.
Also on in July in the Patrimonio wine-growing region (the authors favourite Corsican wine) the Nuits de Guitare or Guitar Nights.
The beautiful mountain town of Sartene in Corse sud hosts the annual International Piano and Chamber Music Festival in July.
It’s the Almond fair in August in Areno. La Fete des Amandiers is centred around a great Corsican product, the Almond.
The Erbalunga Music Festival takes place in August in the village of Erbalunga on the Cap Corse which is on the north of the island, the bit which sticks up like a finger.
August celebrates the islands most well known historical figure Napolean Bonaparte. On the 15th August 2011 the Fetes Napoleoniennes boast parades, fireworks and costumes.
In September its more Polyphonic singing at the Calvi Polyphonic singing festival.
The Inter-island Windsurf race takes place on the straights between Bonifacio in Corsica and Sardinia in September. The Defi Inter-Iles covers 17km.
The Musicales de Bastia takes place 12th to 16th October. An annual event held in various venues throughout Bastia covering a range of musical styles.
In November the annual 17km Balanina hike attracts many islanders and mainland French participants.
