Brittany events for Brittany villa holidays 2011 along with a few which have still to run in 2010. Brittany has a lively cultural scene of which the locals are justifiably proud and which visitors are invited to join in. Here is the Brittany social calendar for 2011.
Starting next week is the annual Trans Musical which takes place in the university town of Rennes and runs from the 8 to 12 December. It’s one of the best known musical events in France.
The annual Scallop festival takes place in Erquy on the Cote d’Armor in Brittany in April. This is the centre for Coquille Saint-Jacques as they are also known.
Also in May Saint Brieuc hosts the Art Rock Festival which is an annual event of contemporary music and performance art.
In June 2nd to the 5th, its another seafood related event, this time it’s the annual Fete de la Morue or cod as we know it. Held in the port of Binic with Breton music and special market.
Rennes hosts the annual Tombees de la Nuit Festival in July and the streets come alive with artists performing music accompanied by light shows.
Also in July Brittany resounds to the sound of rock and reggae at the Festival des Vielles Charrues in the fields near Carhaix.
The annual Festival de Cornouaille is the regions major celebration of Breton culture and it is held in the beautiful cathedral city of Quimper.
Jazz comes to Brittany in the form of the annual Vannes Jazz Festival in July. It is held amidst the Jardin de Limur and in the Auditorium des Carnes.
July and August attracts the clubbers and DJs to the Astropolis Dance Music Festival to places such as Carene.
The brilliantly named end of the world festival takes place on the Presque’Ile de Crozon. Who could resist a dance on the beach at the Bout du monde Music Festival?
The annual La Route du Rock festival takes place amidst the ramparts of Saint Malo castle in August.
Also on in August in Lorient is the Interceltic Festival staged in the streets and in marquees.
How French is this? The fete de l’ognion rose, which takes place annually in Roscoff in August. The onion rose is the Roscoff regions major export and definitely worth celebrating.
It’s Concarneau which stages the annual Fete des Filets Bleus in fine Breton style with Celtic bands and lots of fish.
One of Brittany’s oldest festivals is the annual Saint-Loup festival which is held in public gardens and concert venues across Guingamp in southern Brittany.
The British film festival takes place in Dinard each October and is a celebration of films from the UK.
