ABTA, the British travel association has reported that a number of Mediterranean destinations have been basking in beautiful warm temperatures while Britain continues to suffer through a wet summer. The hope is that it will be a late surge of holiday bookings for foreign holidays.
Together with the recent appreciation of Sterling and rosier economic outlook it is reasonable to expect that those who have held out to determine where they will spend August and September it is becoming ever more unlikely to take a chance on the debilitating British weather. ABTA reported that the weather in the United Kingdom over the past two years have been some of the worst on record.
Villas du Monde - Villas Worldwide used to have its UK office in Grassington (it's in Paris now) in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, where it can be a depressing sight to see tourists look at each other in disbelief that they are required to survive the wet and cold and moan on about how horrible the weather has been this summer.
The Met Office has obviously a lot to answer for having glibly reported a likely BBQ summer in Great Britain in 2009, backed up with recommendations for planting gardens with cactus and likes to survive the heat generated by a likely heat-wave will probably will go down in annals together with Michael Fish notorious mistake in failing to report a forthcoming hurricane.
We at Villas du Monde - Villas Worldwide spend a lot of time on Riviera in the south of France as it is an area where we have a particular expertise and a large number of villas. We can report that it has hardly been a drop of rain in the Riviera since April. Sunny days are a regular occurrences and shorts, T-Shirt and flip flops are everyday outfits. There is no surprise, it is like that almost every year.
The same can be said about many of our other destinations, including Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain where the weather has been brilliant all summer. These are the places that we choose because they have the kind of weather you want on a villa holiday, where a holiday is just that, not a kind of survival test.
There are some people who do not want weather to be too warm, especially families with small children and in these instances it is the best to have a look at the west coast of France, Dordogne or Brittany, which has fine, but mild temperatures, affected more by the Atlantic than the warmer Mediterranean Sea.
For a villa holiday in a warm place select from Villas du Monde - Villas Worldwide fabulous selection of villas, which includes holiday houses in France, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
