Saint Malo is an impressive port with a walled old town known as locally as the citadelle, within which there are many interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. Nearby are beautiful, gently sloping beaches which are ideal for families with small children.

This is a big sailing centre, there is a large marina and excellent opportunities for learning to sail.

There is a western channel ferry service from Portsmouth to Saint Malo, it is one of the most popular crossings and tends to book early for peak season school holidays. There is also a ferry service from the channel islands. There are direct international flights to Dinard airport (DNR).

The climate in St Malo is good for family holidays from May Spring Bank holiday through to September. The northern coast of Brittany does get some rain which helps keep temperatures reasonable.
