Montserrat Monastery a must to visit on a Costa Brava villa holiday, one of the most important religious sites in Spain.

Located to the west of Barcelona, Montserrat can be accessed by car, cable car or train. The Monastery, a Benedictine abbey is so important to the proud people of Catalonia that many locals make the overnight hike to the top of Montserrat in order to witness the rising of the sun. It is a religious retreat and hosts the Virgin of Montserrat, the principal saint of Catalonia.

The boys choir is one of the oldest in all of Europe, the Esclonia performs still at main religious events. There is a also a functioning printing press which lays claim to being one of Europe’s first, dating back to 1499.
