Chamonix chalets

Chamonix chalets in our selection range from a two bedroom for four people to a five bedroom for twelve. The facility of being able to walk into the centre and enjoy the Chamonix scene both day and night is a great advantage although the ski bus services are excellent.

Chamonix is at the heart of skiing and mountaineering history in Europe and even today you can take the most dramatic and beautiful cable car ride in the world or enjoy the charm of the funicular railway which climbs the flanks of Mont Blanc. Two hundred years of alpinist history is all around in Chamonix, a ski resort which takes your breath away.

Chamonix is located about one hours drive from Geneva, which has direct flights from Leeds Bradford, Birmingham, Luton, Gatwick, Manchester, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Stanstead, Bristol, Glasgow, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Southampton, Exeter, Isle of Man and London City with either Easyjet, Jet2, British Airways, BMI baby, Baboo or FL Thomas cook.

As a resort, Chamonix is really a town, unusually big and bustling for a ski resort. The centre has lots going on, great bars and restaurants along with excellent shopping facilities and ski sports shops. The ski school is first class and there is a very international feel about the place, many languages are spoken here. There is also an excellent indoor stadium which holds world class events such as ice hockey.

The high altitude glacier skiing, with the highest lift at 3842m, means there is good skiing right from the start of the ski season in December through to May (exact dates vary each year). The vertical drop is a whopping 3842m and the Valley Blanche run down the glacier is something else. You have 155km of ski runs to go at but you do have to get the bus to get around to each of the six major areas which are Le Brevent, La Flegere (the latter are linked together), Grand Montets, L’Aguille du Midi (off piste only – guide essential), Le Tour and Les Houches (the latter is actually very good for beginners and low intermediates). All this is available on the one Chamonix Mont Blanc in Total Freedom ski pass.

There is lots going on in the valley, snow boarding, ski jumping, and more leisurely recreation such as snow shoeing and cross country skiing and if you fancy a paragliding jump to remember this is one of the most amazing places on earth to do it.

Chamonix is an experience, OK there is not the joined (by interlinking lifts) up skiing which you find elsewhere but the scale of the mountains, the quality of skiing on offer and the atmosphere make up for it. There is skiing for everyone from beginners to advanced though mainly it’s geared to intermediates, advanced and off piste. It's hard not to fall in love with Chamonix.
