First champion of France ice climbing competition in Champagny en Vanoise takes place on the ice tower 12th to 13th February 2011.
The climbers have a time limit of six to twelve minutes to climb as high as they can up a fixed route which is entirely unknown to the competitors in advance. The ice climbers are protected by rope and harness so there is limited risk.
Ice climbing and climbing in general are growth sports at the moment so this event which starts at 09.30 and finishes at 16.30 on the Saturday and a longer day 09.00 to 18.30 on the Sunday is expected to attract great interest.
