Bonifacio is a stunning town perched on a hilltop with precipitous limestone cliffs leading down to the perfect natural harbour below. As well as interesting shops and some very good restaurants there are stunning walks along the cliff top towards the lighthouse.

There are numerous boat trips running from the harbour and to really appreciate the beauty of Bonifacio its worth taking one even if it's just the short one hour option. The views of the cliffs and sea caves from a boat on a sunny day are quite breathtaking. 

The beaches close to the town are somewhat grainy and stony due to the limestone cliffs; however within a short drive there are numerous attractive sandy beaches including the long, beautiful, un-spoilt beaches towards Figari Port and the bay of Santa Manza.

This is a great historic centre and the large Genoese fort which dominates the hilltop is lasting testament to Bonifacio’s strategic importance. Many attempts have been made to capture the town including one where the besieging general ordered over a hundred steps cut into the rock overnight. These steps and many other points of interest fascinate the visitor to this day.

Sperone golf club is located just outside town. An amazing 18 holes course in many senses, it is certainly amongst the most spectacular in the world. Much of the course commands stunning views of the sea and some of the holes are situated on improbable mini peninsula’s offering wonderful photo opportunities and extreme golfing hazards.

There is a regular ferry service operating between Bonifacio and Santa Theresa in Sardinia. The journey takes around one hour and is a good way of accessing the island via Olbia airport using low cost flights such as the one operated by Easyjet. Bonifacio can be accessed from both Figari and Bastia airport.
