Belem Tower an impressive UNESCO site in Lisbon which was built with a view to protecting the town back in the 16 century.
Although fortified and build for a military purpose there is an architectural beauty and elegance about the Belem tower which looks over the river Tagus from the Portuguese mainland.
You can visit the Belem Tower, or Torre de Belem as it is known locally, any day of the week except Mondays, opening times 10.00 to 17.00 (with small variations). The entrance fee is around 4€ per adult and 1.6€ for children with under 14’s getting in for free.
