This year we have been particularly busy refreshing and increasing the range of ski chalets and as with the summer properties, we have noticed more than ever the move towards contemporary interiors.
In many cases, all that remains of the original chalet is the exterior as the whole of the inside has been rebuilt from new with the latest building materials and insulation and the rooms arranged with plenty of space, fitted furnishings and ultra-modern sanitary and kitchenware.
Bedrooms too benefit from the latest comfortable bedding, big beds, yes the days of the bateau bed and your feet bumping on the wood at the bottom are gone, now you can be sure of a good nights sleep after a day on the slopes.
En-suite bathrooms and shower rooms are increasingly being offered to the extent that the days of sharing is gradually becoming a thing of the past and indeed twin sinks are becoming increasingly common especially in the master bedrooms. Best of all the dodgy plumbing often found in older chalets is no longer an inconvenience. In a way, the bedroom facilities in a chalet are now resembling those of a high-quality hotel without the inconvenience of the noise generated by hotel guests.
In the living rooms the open fires are being replaced by efficient, warmer wood burners and with triple glazing, the windows are bigger than ever so that you can enjoy the magnificent views outside from the snug comfortable interior.
Hot tubs, showers and gym equipment are also right up to date and thought of the car and ski storage with boot warmers is rarely neglected.
We have come across one or two which are even abandoning the traditional style of chalet exterior and still managing to offer a great deal of mountain charm.
There is still a lot to be said for traditional charm but for those who like modern comforts do have a look at the enhanced selection of VWW/VDM ski chalets.
