Silver Coast Travel

There are direct flights to Porto (OPO) which is the main airport for traveling to Portugal's Silver Coast, serviced with direct flights by low cost airlines Easyjet and Ryanair as well as TAP. Lisbon (LIS) which is further south is also a possibility. Both have flights from London and many regional UK airports.

Silver Coast Weather

The climate on the Silver Coast of Portugal is warm and sunny from May to September with some rainfall but not much. Temperatures rise quite high in July and August.

Birthplace of six of the kings of Portugal and host to the countries oldest university is Coimbra which itself is located near to Conimbriga the largest roman excavation in the land.

North of Coimbra is the city of Aveiro which is known for its charming canals and lagoon, this was once a great seafaring port and has a rich legacy. Also worth visiting are the cathedrals around Alcobaca, Fatima and Batalha.

The local fare is invariably seafood complemented by pork dishes from Coimbra. There is a strong Portuguese culture here which is reflected in the way of life.

The coast is made up of long sandy beaches with rolling Atlantic surf which is perfect for windsurfers and surfers as well as family fun. Ericeira and Peniche are the most famous surfing resorts in the country and indeed they are renowned throughout the world.

The wine routes are another of the many attractions this beautiful Silver Coast region has to offer.
