Take a villa holiday in Saronida, East Attica and enjoy the pleasures of a small seaside town with a nice beach and beautiful Aegean sea an hour and a half from the centre of Athens and twenty minutes by car from the beautiful Cape at the southern tip of the Athenian peninsula.
You can enjoy a lovely drive down the west coast of the peninsula to the Archaeological site of Sounion where the Temple of Poseidon sits on a hill commanding stunning panoramic views. It is a beautiful site, very well preserved and of particular beauty at sunset. The beach just opposite is really good and you have the Sounion National Park to explore.
Using combinations of the bus and the underground railway it is quite feasible to visit central Athens on public transport. The principal attractions there being the Acropolis with the Parthenon temple on the hill, though it is being restored so be aware that there will be scaffolding and cranes for some years to come. At the bottom of the hill is the Acropolis Museum which has one of the best collections of Greek sculptures you will come across anywhere all cleverly displayed in a fabulous modern setting, it only opened recently.
Day trips to the nearby islands of Egina, Makronisos and Kea are fun to do as well and the incredible Corinthian canal is just an hour and a half drive.
There is a decent range of shops, bars and restaurants in the town itself.

Saronida weather
This is a near year-round destination as the weather is generally warm and sunny with temperatures rising in the main July and August school holiday periods when you need a pool in the garden and air conditioning in the villa.
