Opened in July this year the Terra Rossa Museum is located on the banks of the river Bresque in the interesting, little town of Salernes in the Cote d'Azur region of the South of France, near the coast, handy for the beach.
Salernes is famous for it’s ceramic tiles that are still much sought-after today and adorn walls and floors of many beautiful villas and old "bastides" found in the area. The original tiles have a very special red color, but today, there is a variety of different types and colors.
Terra Rossa Museum is located within an adapted old ceramic plant. Super modern and bang up to date the museum is a beautiful building in itself, and from the moment you walk in the door, it has a great feeling of space. Here an industrial process has been made both interesting and beautiful.
The museum also shows off ceramic art and this year, it is a study of potters and ceramics by local artists, as well as 2000 tile floors, dating back to the Middle Ages up to the 19 century. Archaeological screens also are characterized by a display of Benoit Fay open every day from 10.00 to 19.00 in July and August and Wednesday to Sunday in September and reduced days through November. The museum is good value, and well worth the visit.
