Holiday events in Provence 2012 will be starting soon. This social calendar of what’s on in Provence is designed to help you get the best out of your stay in one of our villas in Provence.
The Hivernales is a contemporary dance festival held annually in Avignon. In 2012 it is on from 25th February to 3rd March.
Also in Avignon it’s the annual Avignon Motor Festival in the Parc des Expositions 23rd to 25th March.
The Aix Cartoon Festival takes place each year, from 26th March to 28th April 2012. The Festival de la Bande Desinee is held at the Cite du Livre, Musee Granet and a number of other locations in Aix.
The Aix en Provence comedy festival is on each year in May. You need a reasonable level of French to appreciate the excellent comedy on offer at the Aix Festival de Rire.
In Avignon in May/June it’s the annual Fete de la Vigne et du vin which is held at the Palais des Papes. It is an event which is also held elsewhere in Provence and the Rhone Valley at the same time.
Also on in May in Avignon at the Palais des Papes is the Altera Rosa – Festival of the Rose.
The annual Cavaillon Corso takes place in May, in this famous sweet melon producing area.
Aix en Provence Fete de la Musique is exceptional as the city is well adapted to the event and full of talent. The warm summer nights of Provence make the 21st June a memorable occassion in many parts of the region.
Saint-Remy holds its annual Transhumance pageant in May to celebrate the moment when the sheep are moved to the high pastures.
In June it’s the annual Flaneries de l’Art in Aix en Provence. It’s a guided walk around the town where you view contemporary art.
In July the annual festival d'Aix takes place from 5th to 27th July with beautiful classical music and opera performances.
In the fabulous roman arena in Arles the annual Guardian Celebration horse race is run in June.
Also in July in Aix it’s the annual Aix-en-Provence Festival. A high quality festival of repute.
In July Avignon holds the Festival d’Avignon. A huge multi arts festival.
Bastille day is celebrated big time in Avignon on the 14th of July.
The Cote Cour Music Festival takes place in Aix each year in July, mainly in the Cloitre des Oblats.
Also in July the Provence Retro Car Show comes to Aix-en-Provence.
In July and August the Orange Opera Festival is amongst the best in France, held in the magnificent outdoor Theatre antique. This one of the highest quality events in France, often featured on mainstream French TV.
In August it’s the annual Tremplin jazz festival in Avignon.
Marseille Water Jousting Provence Championship is held during the summer months of July and August in the spectacular setting of the Old Port.
Saint Remy Carreto Ramado is one of the main events of the summer in Provence in August.
Sault Lavender Festival is a significant annual event held in August in Provence. Lavender is emblematic of the region but the number of lavender fields is shrinking, Sault region upholds the longstanding traditions.
Cannes Pantiero Festival is an annual event held on the roof terrace of the Palais des Festivals by the port.
The french chanson festival in Aix en Provence takes place each year at the begining of October. A chance to see the rising talents of France perform.
Piano Nights is an annual event which takes place in towns around Provence from early October to mid-December, an event frequented by classical piano stars.
