In the tranquil village of Le Bar-sur-Loup time seems to stand still, as the sun shines and the cicadas trill in the summer heat. The centre is a dead end so there is very little traffic circulation which has something to do with it. It is the "donjon" restaurant which is the main focal point in the village square along with the hotel, though it is the spectacular views down the Gorge du Loup towards the sea which catch the eye as the village is at an altitude of 300 metres and behind the mountains rise to 1000 metres and beyond. However, the village is spread out around the basin of the hillside and the houses outside the centre are set in the terraces amidst lush vegetation and ancient olive trees.

There is a small grocery shop and chemists along with takeaway pizza place and a few other useful establishments though up the hill at Pres de Lac is where there are a decent sized market and a wider range of shops. In the valley, at Pont du Loup the Florian confectionery is something of an attraction and the gorge itself is a great place for canyoning, which is organised, as well as climbing, cycling and walking.

It is fairly easy to get to Le Bar-sur-Loup as it is only 25 km from Nice Cote d'Azur airport. The motorway at Cagnes-sur-Mer is just 19 km so road access is straightforward too.

Being fairly high up on the hillside the village of Le Bar-sur-Loup is well situated as it benefits from cooler air from the mountains during the evening and being south facing it gets plenty of warm sunshine during the day. Rain is fairly rare and it is sunny much of the year. July and August are the hottest months of the year.
