Cote de Rhone wines produced in Provence are another of the great treats to enjoy whilst staying in a holiday villa in Provence.
The great thing about a holiday in a wine area is that you get the chance to dig out the real gems and benefit from generally cheaper prices for local produce in the shops and supermarkets.
This is most noticeable when you go to the champagne area and look in the supermarkets there. The choice of champagne on offer and the unbelievable prices help you understand how local produce finds its way into local shops and the benefits that gives to the price when less transport cost is involved. Well the same applies to cote de Rhone wines in the Provence region of France.
Cote de Rhone wine is generally known for its robust, flavorsome reds which go very well with red meat dishes and cheese. Amongst the most famous is Chateauneuf du Papes which can be absolutely fantastic. Other Cote de Rhones of note include Valreas (we have a holiday villa in Valreas).
Personally I like to drink Cote de Rhone in the winter and lean towards cool Rose wines in the summer but now and again its nice to drink a wine with some mystery and deep flavour which isn’t quite so hard hitting as a Bordeaux, so out comes the Cote de Rhone.
What makes the Cote de Rhone wines so rich and rounded is the sun which warms the vineyards on the limestone hillsides and valleys, the same sunshine which makes a holiday in a Provence villa so pleasant,
When you are on holiday in France it’s a great chance to stock up your wine cellar by visiting a few local chateau and finding some space in the car boot.
