The islands of Croatia are legion and offer a quite unique holiday experience, the two main ones are Brac and Hvar, the question is, which one to choose?
As far as travelling to Brac and Hvar is concerned there is little to choose between the two as the ferry from Split to Supertar on Brac takes just short of an hour whilst the boat connection from Split to Hvar takes is a little further but is still only an hour and twenty minutes journey time.
One of the big swing factors for Brac is the Zlatni Rat beach which is unusually beautiful and sandy, it features often in promotional brochures for Croatia as when seen from above it is quite stunning. So if its a great beach you are after then Brac is probably the place for you.
Hvar town in particular has something of a reputation as being the "St Tropez" of Croatia and is the sort of place which prompts the question "what should I wear?" Actually its casual and smart as whilst it is a smart place the beautiful polished stone paving plays havoc with high heels and over the top dressing up.
There is an abundance of history and heritage on both islands, trendy Hvar town has beautiful ancient, narrow streets and a hilltop fortification and Stari Grad is even older.
Brac has a charming combination of pretty fishing ports along with a nature park which is ideal for walking and mountain biking. The villages are lower key than Havr town and have a nice sleepy feel to them.
So to sum up if your looking for somewhere a little bit livelier, trendy and very beautiful then Hvar would be the one for you. If it's an outstanding beach and sleepy, friendly fishing villages then try Brac. You could of course stay on both though getting from one to the other would use up a day which would be a shame.
We have a super selection of holiday villas with private pools on Hvar which are within walking distance of the town. Our holiday homes on Brac are spread around the island in the key coastal areas. Do please ask if you would like any assistance with where to stay on either of these delightful Croatian islands. We can also arrange transfers from the airport in Split and can help advise regarding ferries if you would rather organise your own travel.
