Bonnard and friends exposition Cote d’Azur is on at Le Musee Bonnard in Le Cannet until 16 September 2012.
This one off exhibition is unique in its content and quality and personally I really enjoyed it. To see so many original paintings by the likes of Monet, Matisse and Vuillard exposed in the charming building of the Le Musee Bonnard was a real treat.
I enjoyed most of all the Bonnard and Matisse; variations on the window theme, where the artists explore the play on light and colour when looking out of a window. The other main themes are Bonnard, Vuillard & Les Nabis; Parallel Portraits and Bonnard & Monet; between simplicity and excess.
The Musee Bonnard have brought together a marvelous selection of original paintings from museums in France such as the Musee d’Orsay and from as far afield as Moscow, plus others from private collections. I saw the rave review on French national television program Telematin, which prompted me to go and see for myself, I realise now what they were so excited about.
The entry fee of 7€ per adult was, in my opinion, well worth the money, the address is 16 bd Sadi Carnot. For more details see museebonnard.fr or telephone +33(0)4 93 94 06 06 Take a wander up in to the old town of Le Cannet whilst you are at it, its charming and there a couple of lovely restaurants on the main square overlooking the sea.
