Vafkeri is a small hamlet high in the hills of Lefkada island overlooking the east coast. Surrounded by pine woods the air is clear and the views breathtaking. There is a very good taverna but little else so you will need to drive along the hillside to the traditional village of Karia for basics from the supermarket as well as a choice of restaurants.
There are lovely walks in the hills and the Melissa gorge is particularly spectacular whilst the Asomaton monastery is a good cultural place to visit and the lakes are great places to swim.
Down on the coast is the lively, popular resort of Nydri which has nice sandy beaches and a small port which is a major departure point for boat excursions to the nearby small islands. It is a great place for water sports and there are lots of bars and restaurants overlooking the sea.
The main town of Lefkada and the access bridge to the island from the mainland are around 40 minutes by car.
