Saint Raphaël is a popular seaside resort set in the Var borough of France on the stunning Cote d’Azur, in eastern Provence. Unusually Saint Raphaël adjoins another popular resort called Fréjus by means of a long beachside promenade. Both Fréjus and Saint Raphaël have large boating marinas housing many stunning boats whilst the quaysides are a labyrinth of shops, cafes and restaurants for all budgets.
Connecting the two resorts is a superb, wide sandy beach which also has a number of excellent restaurants and cafes on the beach itself along with many more set back from the beach. During the summer months there is a very enjoyable evening market stretching along the seafront most evenings lasting until around mid-night. This expands into a very large market on Sunday mornings which is well frequented throughout the year.
Saint Raphael Travel
The nearest airport to St Rapheal is Nice (61km around 53 minutes drive) which is well served with direct flights from all over the world throughout the year. There is a rail station in St Raphael and there are good road links via the A8 motorway.
Saint Raphael Weather
The climate in the south of France is excellent, warm and sunny year round with the exception of November which is a rainy month. Saint Raphael is a holiday destination where you can be more or less sure of good weather.
Just along from Saint Raphael on the coast road towards Cannes lies the Dramont beach which was the site of one of the first allied landings on French soil in 1944 which led ultimately to the liberation of the country and the end of the Second World War.
There is a lot to do in Saint Raphael, particularly on the sea. The marina offers lots of boating opportunities and there are schools for sailing and waterskiing as well as private hire. The coastline to the east has many rocky coves which are excellent for snorkeling and scuba diving as well as exploring with kayaks.
The nearby Esterel hills offer dramatic, red rock scenery and many excellent walks and mountain bike tracks.
