Propriano is a delightful, small seaside town. There is a lovely harbour lined with open air cafes and restaurants along with a number of good shops. The bay is flanked by dramatic hills which create a very picturesque setting.

There are a number of delightful beaches around Propriano and in the Valinco bay. Just to the north Olmetto plage is very popular and a big favourite is Campomoro located a short drive to the south.

There are some excellent boat trips which depart from Propriano and head up the coast to the natural park at Scandola. Propriano is an excellent centre for scuba diving and there is plenty of marine life to appreciate in the crystal clear waters of the bay of Valinco.

A short drive north of Propriano in the commune of Sollacaro in the Tavaro valley lies Filitosa which is one of the most important prehistoric site on the island. First discovered in 1946 by the owner of the land Charles-Antoine Cesari this extraordinary find unearthed arrow heads and pottery dating back to 3300 BC. Menhirs (standing stones) of 2-3 metres in height with carved human faces, armour and weapons dating back to 1500 BC were also discovered.
