Holiday villas in Corsica are now better serviced than ever before with the arrival of low-cost airline Easyjet. The new arrival offers flights to Ajaccio and Bastia from Gatwick for as little as £103 return in May. Weekly departure days are Sunday which fits perfectly with most Corsica villa holiday change-over dates.
This is seen as a very significant step for Corsica which has lagged behind the neighbouring island of Sardinia which has benefited from low-cost flights for some time. Villas in Sardinia are served by Easyjet flights from Gatwick to Olbia from £79 in May.
Corsica can also be accessed by Thomsonfly flights from a number of main and regional airports. These include Gatwick and Manchester to Figari, Gatwick, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh to Bastia, Gatwick to Ajaccio, Manchester and Gatwick to Calvi. British Airways also operates flights from Gatwick to Bastia. There are established charter flights which at the moment tend to be more expensive.
With flight times of under two and a half hours to sunny, Caribbean standard beaches and magnificent mountainous countryside Corsica is the destination of choice for many discerning villa holidaymakers. However the introduction of low-cost flights does not mean that Corsica will be changing its long held policy of limited numbers tourism as overall the number of flights into the island remains modest. This is Corsica doing a little catching up.
