Is Saint Tropez loosing its stars? It was reported last week that there is a distinct lack of celebrities in Saint Tropez this summer. The beautiful resort of Saint Tropez, which rocketed to fame in the 60’s due to its popularity with French icon Brigitte Bardot is normally awash with big name stars. But not so far this year. Denzil Washington arrived recently but there is definite feeling that he is a rare gem. This is a very unusual state of affairs, so much so that mainstream French TV news carried a feature bemoaning this strange state of affairs.
The Cote d’Azur has certainly been quieter in general this year, in particular due to a large proportion of the usual French visitors opting to holiday with family rather than take their usual coastal holiday basking in the sun. The financial crunch has affected many across Europe and the states. The upside is that big name resorts such as Frejus, Nice and Cannes which, like Saint Tropez are normally very busy in the height of summer are proving to be less frequented and consequently more pleasant.
Saint Tropez has huge charm, focused around the pretty port which hosts stunning luxury yachts alongside traditional fishing boats. There is a myriad of pedestrian shopping streets with excellent individual boutiques many of which are offering spectacular savings in the summer sales, 50% off seems to be the norm. Another upside for those who can get away on holiday. The main square and recreational areas have a wonderful feeling of old Provence epitomized by the games of boule which last long into the night. Essentially Saint Trop is a glamorous place with numerous restaurants and cafes and a lively night life complemented by excellent beaches.
Villas Worldwide has a superb range of high quality villas with swimming pools in Saint Tropez and the main Cote d’Azur resorts. For a Saint Tropez villa it is often necessary to book a year in advance but this year there are still some holidays available in the area.
