Leaning Tower of Pisa visit? Yes you can, on a Tuscany Coast villa holiday as Pisa is just a short drive from our range of Italian holiday homes with private pools. The leaning tower of Pisa is not only one of the most iconic sights of Italy it is also one of the best if you do it properly.
There is no doubt that there are masses of tourists from all over the world who flock to see the leaning tower of Pisa in much the same way as they do to see the Eiffel tower and the Empire state building, but it is worth it and can be both enjoyable and impressive.
For some time the tower was struggling to stay upright at all and it took a feat of considerable ingenuity and application to contrive a system which managed to stabilise the tower and prevent it from falling. What the engineers achieved in doing this becomes all the more impressive when you visit the tower and appreciate its sheer size, something which is hard to do from photos. It is a colossal structure made of massive, heavy stone and also very beautiful.
The leaning tower of Pisa is surrounded by a vast lawned area where you can sit and relax. There is also the Cathedral and outbuildings along with numerous souvenir shops. Children love to visit as they can run around freely on the lawns and delight in taking amusing pictures of themselves "holding up" the tower.
You can go up the tower for a fee, it’s a strange experience as at times you are walking down in order to go up due to the angle of the building. It’s higher than most people expect so careful if you haven’t got a head for heights. You may have to hang around an hour or so after purchasing your ticket (which can be pre-purchased) so you may want to plan for a picnic and some shelter from the sun. It is worthwhile going up.
It’s very easy to get to the leaning tower of Pisa as it’s just ten minutes drive out of town, which itself is of little interest. It is also very easy to get to our Tuscany coast villas as they are within easy driving distance of Pisa airport.
