The Poitou Charente is a historic region with a fabulous coastline which allows us to offers varied and interesting villas, ranging from a huge stone chateau in vast grounds to a beautiful modern villa with a pool and views directly over the sea. The region stretches inland incorporating the Vienne which has a beautiful meandering river and verdant rolling hills.

La Rochelle is a famous historic port which now hosts many modern sailing and motor craft which can be admired from the lovely outdoor cafes and restaurants. Poitiers, Angouleme and Niort are attractive market towns which are a delight to shop in.

The undulating countryside has long been ideal for growing grape vines and the region produces one of the world’s most famous beverages, Cognac, along with the lesser known sweet Pinaud.  The coast is a marvellous source of delicious oysters and a huge choice of fresh fish and sea food.

This is excellent cycling country as there are few steep hills and lots of quiet country lanes and pine forest tracks by the coast. The beaches tend to be very wide and backed by sand dunes and the sea is a great source of fun as there are usually good sized waves which are suitable for surfing in some parts. One of the more unusual attractions is the Futuroscope theme park which is great if you like cinematic experiences on a grand scale.

The Poitou Charente weather is generally nice and warm from mid May through to the end of September with the occasional shower drifting in off the sea. There is plenty of sunshine to ripen all those grapes and keep the villas swimming pools warm!
