In Brittany the weather is generally good, particularly in the summer months when it gets really warm, but it is prone to attracting some rain. The gulf stream warms much of the southern coast and sea bathing can be really pleasant even late into the evening.
There is plenty to do for all the family. Water sports are fantastic, with superb variety offered by sheltered coves and exposed headlands, so if its wind surfing, water skiing, sailing or surfing or just plain enjoying the sea the worlds your oyster. Furthermore the sea is generally nice and safe and clean. And if you prefer something more land based there are lots of cycling tracks, bridle ways and walks, with some of the best being along the coast itself.
Breton culture is special, due in large part to Celtic origins. The food is fabulous, particularly if you like fresh seafood and oysters. Everyone likes the crepes which come in savoury and sweet varieties and often make up a whole meal usually washed down with local cider which comes in a wide range of locally made varieties.
The traditional “fez nos soireés” are fun events for all the family which take place around all the villages and towns throughout the summer months. Traditional costumes, including “coiffe” (ladies bonnets) are worn and the music is provided by a form of bag pipe along with tin whistles, usually jazzed up with contemporary instruments, all danced to with gusto. Everyone joins in and its great fun.
