Cycling is becoming an increasingly popular holiday pastime in France as equipment evolves along with dedicated cycle tracks, hire shops, tourist information and general enthusiasm. I have had a number of cycling experiences in the south of France recently which helped me realise quite how many people are electing to enjoy this simple pleasure on holiday.I'm a late developer when it comes to cycling and it was actually just after my divorce seven years ago, when I was feeling rather down that a good friend of mine called from the bike shop in...

Jean Cocteau museum in Menton, collection Severin Wunderman opened for the first time last year, this summer you can visit free of charge on Sunday on the first weekend of each month.   The most striking thing about the Musée Jean Cocteau Séverin Wunderman is actually the museum itself. As a piece of modern architecture it is pretty impressive. From a distance it is disappointing and almost ugly but as you approach your sentiments change as one begins to appreciate what a clever piece of design work it is.   The architect Rudy Riccioti...

Cannes Regates Royales - Panerai trophy takes place between 22nd and 29th September.  As the intense heat of the summer begins to wane at last in the Cote d'Azur of France and the September breeze begins to come to life one can't help but begin to think of the coming sailing regatta season.  My favourite is the Cannes Regates Royales - Panerai trophy event which features so many beautiful old boats that are so magnificent when in full sail, no one can fail to be impressed.  As the boats prepare in the old harbour of Cannes...

Juan Jazz 2012 started last night with Norah Jones headlining and Adam Cohen opening proceedings.I have long hankered after getting along to the Juan Les Pins festival since I first became aware of it thanks to some research I was doing in the area for a documentary with the BBC many moons ago.Norah Jones in concert seemed like the perfect occasion to enjoy some chilled out music by the sea set amidst the Mediterranean pines after which Juan takes its name.First up was Adam Cohen who was pretty good and was backed by a very impressive American cello...

Cote d'Azur France cooking lessons with a top chef at one of the best restaurants in the south of France. It was a request from one of our clients who is staying in a villa in Saint Cezaire in the French Riviera this summer which prompted us to look in to what is available in the way of cooking lessons in the area.We came up with a number of options but the one we liked the best is at the L’Amandiers restaurant in Mougins, which we already recommend as one of our best choice restaurants to eat out in Cote d’Azur. You can book in to take a...

Bonnard and friends exposition Cote d’Azur is on at Le Musee Bonnard in Le Cannet until 16 September 2012.This one off exhibition is unique in its content and quality and personally I really enjoyed it. To see so many original paintings by the likes of Monet, Matisse and Vuillard exposed in the charming building of the Le Musee Bonnard was a real treat. I enjoyed most of all the Bonnard and Matisse; variations on the window theme, where the artists explore the play on light and colour when looking out of a window. The other main themes are...

Grand Prix Monaco qualifying day 2012 was fantastic with Micheal Shumacher quickest but Mark Webber coming out on top at the end of the day.It was a fantastic day in Monaco today with bright, hot sunshine and clear blue skies and the qualifying was spectacular to watch. But for me it was a first time at the Monaco Grand Prix as I’m not really a big Formula 1 fan. Like many I follow it occasionally and have some interest. What I was really interested in was the ambiance of a race day in Monaco.I have to say I was not disappointed, from the minute I...

Eze is a Cote d’Azur attraction which ranks among the most spectacular in the south of France. The village of Eze is perched high on the cliffs at 356 metres above sea level and commands stunning views of the Mediterranean, the mountains and the bay of Saint Jean cap Ferrat, its worth a visit for the views alone. There is much more though, Eze has a very pretty medieval village which is perched on top of a hill and here you will find a myriad of small winding street which are too small for cars.At the top is an ancient fortress below which is the...

Marmot spotting on a Cote d’Azur holiday might seem a bit far fetched but actually its only a couple of hours drive into the Alpes Maritime to the perfect spot.I’ve always had a thing about Marmots, I don’t know what it is but there are such lovely creatures and really quite unusual. Whenever I’m on a walk in the high mountains of the Mercantour National Park, on the border with Italy, in the south of France, I’m always on the lookout for marmots. The trouble is they are quite secretive and only really tend to show...
