Antibes on the Cote d’Azur in France, eastern Provence, is a beautiful seaside resort with plenty to do both day and night. For more information on the Villas Worldwide villas in Antibes, photographs of the town and further information see below.

Antibes, once known as Antipolis in roman times, carries a legacy as a trading town with a natural port which was fortified by numerous occupiers over the years. Today it remains an important boating centre and the large harbour is well frequented, notably by the rich and famous but also by everyday sailors. During June the “Voiles d’Antibes” hosts the biggest gathering of old teak and brass sailing boats in the world, a stunning sight.

Behind the ancient walls of the quay there are lively bars and restaurants which, along with the rest of the old town are animated by street musicians and performers during the summer months. The evening scene is very good, relaxed and fun and extremely popular with holidaymakers.

The covered market is open in the mornings and offers excellent fresh fruit and vegetable produce and you can also buy fresh fish directly from the fisherman on the quay. There are attractive shopping streets and squares with distinctive, individual shops catering for all tastes and numerous outdoor cafes for relaxing. There are frequent antique markets and stalls as well as a large main market in the square.

The ramparts offer spectacular views over the Mediterranean, the Cap d’Antibes across the bay and the main beach in between. Les Vieux Murs restaurant at the end of the ramparts is recommended for its gastronomic cuisine. Many people like the pebble beach just behind the port wall which is nice and sheltered.

There are a number of culturally interesting attractions including the impressive Fort Carré which is at the entrance to the town by which there is also a free car park. The Picasso museum is installed in the castle where he once lived and produced some of his works which drew inspiration from Antibes itself. Picasso loved Antibes and it’s easy to see why.

Antibes weather

There is a micro-climate which encompasses Cannes and Antibes, stretching up to Grasse, almost a halo effect of clear sky nearly all year round so the chances of sunshine are very good. Warm too, in July and August it gets hot.

Antibes travel

Easy road access from the A8 autoroute and just 17 km from Nice international airport it also has a rail station. It is one of the easiest places to get to and makes an ideal base for visiting the likes of Cannes, Nice and Monaco.
